Must-know acronyms for military caregivers

For those of us who have had a previous relationship with the military, abbreviations and acronyms are pretty much the norm. It doesn’t matter whether you were a military brat, spouse, or someone close to you served in the military. At some point you were probably exposed to a number of these infamous acronyms.

Not having served myself, it can sometimes feel a little overwhelming when my husband is in the heat of the moment talking about the good ol’ days in the service. So, you would think that the only thing I need to worry about is keeping up with my husband, right?!

WRONG!

VA letters and acronyms

The wonderful tradition of acronyms and abbreviations continues well after your veteran has ‘officially‘ left the military. If you have to deal with the Department of Veterans Affairs, let me assure you that the VA is particularly good at using them. Whether you are a seasoned military spouse transitioning to veteran’s spouse/caregiver, or a new spouse with no military lifestyle background, these acronyms and abbreviations can be a pain to deal with.

So I decided to create a list of acronyms and abbreviations in the hopes that it may help some of you transition and figure out what all these letters mean. I have tried to also add links (when available) for the acronyms, that will take you directly to the corresponding info page.

Here is a list of some must-know acronyms and abbreviations:
